Compass was founded in 2008 as Denmark's first Lean Academy.

The starting point was a simple idea: Companies can create significantly better results without this having to come at the expense of employees well-being. On the contrary, I believe that high quality, efficient processes, lower costs, and greater employee well-being can, and should, go hand in hand. That was the idea that created Compass, and it is still the foundation of what we do today.

Before I founded Compass, I worked in larger companies and saw firsthand how skilled people spent unnecessary time and energy every day on inefficient processes, errors, waiting time, and tasks that could be solved better. What if we could do the work better, faster, and more cost-effectively, while at the same time creating a workplace with greater well-being? Lean was the obvious answer then, and it is still the obvious answer today.

I did not want to learn just a few Lean tools. From experience, I know the tools cannot do it alone. I wanted to understand the thinking and the principles all the way to the core. That is why I traveled to Japan, and later the United States, to study Lean and learn from some of the environments where modern Lean and Lean leadership had been developed and practiced. That knowledge and experience became the foundation of Compass Academy.

Denmark's First Lean Academy

In 2008, we established Compass as Denmark's first Lean Academy with the ambition of making deep Lean knowledge accessible and applicable for Danish companies and their employees.

To us, Lean is not just about efficiency. It is about how an organization creates value, and how people, processes, innovation, and leadership can work better together.

When that succeeds, a company can deliver higher quality, faster lead times, and greater productivity, while at the same time making work more meaningful and less marked by frustration and unnecessary tasks. This is the understanding of Lean that we want to pass on to our course participants.

From Lean to Business Excellence

The world has evolved since 2008, and so has Compass. Lean remains a central part of our professional foundation, but over the years we have expanded the academy with other methods and technologies that can help people and companies create better results.

Today, we therefore teach and certify within Lean, Six Sigma, Scrum, and AI. The methods are different, but the purpose is the same: To give people knowledge and tools that enable them to create measurable improvements in their organization.

Six Sigma provides strong tools for working with quality and variation in a data-driven way. Scrum helps organizations with development, collaboration, and the ability to adapt quickly to new needs. And AI opens up entirely new possibilities for automating, analyzing, and solving tasks more intelligently. We therefore do not see these areas as isolated disciplines, but as different tools in the work of developing modern and competitive organizations.

Experts Teach What They Work With Themselves

We believe there is a difference between knowing the theory and having the experience that allows you to apply it in practice. That is why our professional level is important to us.

The academy's instructors are highly educated specialists with extensive hands-on experience in their fields. Our professional instructors are partners or directors and have broad experience from business, leadership, development, optimization, and advisory work.

When you meet an instructor at Compass, you do not just meet someone who can explain a model. You meet a specialist who has experience with the situations in which the models and tools must work in real life. That makes it possible to discuss the difficult questions: What do you do when theory meets reality? That is often where the most valuable learning begins.

From Theory to Something You Can Use on Monday Morning

We believe education only truly has value when new knowledge is applied. That is why our teaching is practical and hands-on. We combine theory with cases, exercises, tools, and experience from real companies. The goal is not only for you to understand the method when the course ends. You should also be able to use it when you return to your workplace. A certificate documents your education.

People and Tasks Must Go Hand in Hand

Compass' purpose is to contribute to healthy, growing companies where employees thrive and productivity is high. We do not believe companies need to choose between efficiency and well-being. When weak processes are removed, problems are solved at the root, responsibilities are clarified, and employees' knowledge is brought into play, productivity increases and the workplace becomes a better place to work.

That is why our approach always has two perspectives: People and the task. We want to educate people who can create results, but also people who understand how lasting improvements are created together with others.
